Overview

About panel components

Panel components are what turn an enclosure and a set of breakers into a working control or distribution panel. Terminal blocks organise wiring, busbars distribute power inside the panel, and pushbuttons, selector switches and indicator lamps form the operator interface on the door.

They are bought in volume and in many variants, so a clear BOM matters. Diameter (commonly 22 mm for operator devices), colour, contact arrangement, voltage and mounting style all need to match the drawing. Panel assemblies are often built and verified to IEC 61439, which makes consistent, documented components important.

The panel components we supply

Each line below explains what it is, where it is used, and what to include in your enquiry so we can quote accurately.

01
Terminal Blocks

Terminal Blocks for Organised, Traceable Panel Wiring

Terminal blocks provide a defined connection point between field cables and panel wiring. DIN-rail feed-through terminals are the most common, alongside earth, fuse, disconnect and multi-level variants.

Screw, spring-clamp and push-in connection types differ in installation speed and vibration resistance. End plates, end stops, jumpers and markers are ordered with them.

Typical applications

  • Field cable termination
  • PLC I/O marshalling
  • Earth and neutral distribution
  • Fused and disconnect circuits

What to specify

  • Wire range, e.g. 2.5 mm²
  • Connection: screw, spring, push-in
  • Type: feed-through, earth, fuse
  • Rated voltage and current
  • Accessories and markers

Buying noteList terminals by type and size with accessories, so the panel builder receives a complete set.

02
Busbars

Copper Busbars and Busbar Supports

Busbars distribute current inside switchboards and panels. Copper busbars are specified by width × thickness, length and finish (bare or tinned), and are sized by current and short-circuit withstand.

Busbar supports and insulators hold the bars at the required spacing to withstand short-circuit forces.

Typical applications

  • Main distribution boards
  • MCC horizontal and vertical bus
  • Earth bars
  • DIN busbars for MCB rows

What to specify

  • Section, e.g. 30×10 mm
  • Material: copper, bare or tinned
  • Length
  • Supports and insulators
  • Current and fault rating

Buying noteGive dimensions and quantity per size. If you only have the current rating, the panel designer should confirm the busbar size.

03
Push Buttons

Push Buttons and Emergency Stops

Pushbuttons start, stop and reset machines. Flush, extended and mushroom heads, illuminated or plain, cover different duties. Emergency stops use red mushroom heads on a yellow background with latching action.

Most industrial devices are 22 mm modular units with separate head, mounting collar and contact blocks.

Typical applications

  • Start/stop stations
  • Emergency stop circuits
  • Reset and acknowledge
  • Pendant controls

What to specify

  • Diameter, e.g. 22 mm
  • Head type and colour
  • Contacts: NO / NC
  • Illuminated voltage
  • IP rating

Buying noteState colour and contact arrangement for each button. Emergency stops should be specified with the required latching and release type.

04
Selector Switches

Selector Switches for Mode and Manual Control

Selector switches choose between operating modes such as Hand–Off–Auto, Local–Remote or forward–reverse. They come in 2 or 3 positions, maintained or spring-return, and with key operation where access must be restricted.

Typical applications

  • Hand–Off–Auto selection
  • Local and remote control
  • Maintenance key switches
  • Ammeter and voltmeter selectors

What to specify

  • Positions: 2 or 3
  • Maintained or spring return
  • Knob, lever or key
  • Contact arrangement
  • Diameter

Buying noteDescribe the positions and which contacts close in each, or attach the switching diagram.

05
Indicator Lamps

Indicator Lamps and Pilot Lights

Indicator lamps show status: running, stopped, tripped or supply healthy. Modern units use LEDs for long life and low heat, available at common control voltages.

Typical applications

  • Run and trip indication
  • Phase and supply indication
  • Alarm status
  • Machine state lights

What to specify

  • Colour
  • Voltage, e.g. 24 V DC or 230 V AC
  • Diameter
  • LED type
  • IP rating

Buying noteVoltage is critical. Confirm the control voltage and colour for each lamp.

Selection guide

Key Considerations When Selecting Panel Components

A complete panel BOM is the best enquiry. Where you do not have one, include the following.

  1. 1

    Wire sizes

Terminal sizes follow the conductors they receive.

  2. 2

    Control voltage

Lamps and illuminated buttons must match the control circuit.

  3. 3

    Consistency

One series across a panel keeps appearance and spares consistent.

  4. 4

    Environment

Outdoor and washdown panels need higher IP-rated devices.
